Elena Chernyak is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Social Work at Hartwick College with expertise in gender studies, social inequality, and cross-cultural analysis. Her research examines the intersection of gender, culture, and religion, with particular focus on gender-based violence and immigrant experiences.
A passionate educator, Elena mentors students through collaborative research projects that develop a deep holistic understanding of social structures as well as practical opportunities to develop social reforms. When not in the classroom, she enjoys exploring diverse cultures through travel, drawing inspiration from her international background spanning Russia, Canada, and the United States.
Elena is also an avid reader, enjoys music, and spending time with her family.
